The Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine will kick off festivities for the 452nd Anniversary of the founding of “America’s First Parish” on Sunday, August 27. Bishop Felipe J. Estévez of the Catholic Diocese of St. Augustine, will be the principal celebrant at the 5:00 p.m. Mass in the Cathedral to begin the celebrations.

After 18 months with no executions in Florida, Gov. Rick Scott yesterday ordered Mark James Asay to be executed on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. Asay received two death sentences for the murders of Robert Lee Booker and Robert McDowell. If carried out, this will be the first time that Florida executes a white person for the murder of a black person.
