First World Day of the Poor Proclaimed by Pope Francis

“Little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in deed and in truth” (1 Jn 3:18). These words of the Apostle John voice an imperative that no Christian may disregard. … Love has no alibi.”  

 In declaring the first World Day of the Poor on Nov. 19, Pope Francis has exhorted believers to “draw near to the poor, to encounter them, to meet their gaze, to embrace them and to let them feel the warmth of love that breaks through their solitude.”

Diocese Hosts Annual Cities for Life

The third annual Cities for Life – a worldwide initiative to abolish the death penalty – will be Thursday, Nov. 30, in two locations of the diocese: The Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission Nombre de Dios in St. Augustine and St. Patrick Catholic Church in Gainesville. Both gatherings begin at 6:30 p.m. with a call for all churches in North Florida to ring their bells at 7:30 p.m. in solidarity to end the death penalty.
