“Vicar” – from the Latin word for “substitute” – is used in a variety of contexts in the Catholic Church, mainly to refer to officials who can substitute for a Bishop in his various duties. The Episcopal Vicar, Rev. Michael Houle, is the bishop’s chief representative in the area of development and finance for the diocese. In the Diocese of St. Augustine, Father Houle is also the Diocesan Director of Secondary Schools.
