Mission Statement

We are believers called to follow our Lord Jesus Christ and proclaim his gospel in the midst of a complex and difficult world. As believers, we are convinced that all persons have a basic dignity as children of God and that flowing from this dignity they possess certain inherent rights which the Gospel challenges us to recognize and defend. Throughout the long history of Catholic Social Teaching, our popes and bishops have often reiterated this challenge in terms of world situations. Acknowledging this challenge, our mission as the Diocesan Justice and Peace Commission is to assist the Church of St. Augustine to effectively live out the Gospel call to work for justice and to be peacemakers. This mission is achieved primarily through prayer, witness, advocacy, providing resources and education, in the light of our faith. (Adopted January 31, 1990) The Justice and Peace Commission consists of up to 25 members and meets six times a year – January, March, May, July, September, November.
