March 27, 2015 • Diocese of St. Augustine

First Coast news media got a sneak peak at the renovations of the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Augustine Thursday, March 27. Father Tom Willis, rector of the Cathedral provided an overview of the extensive work that was done to the interior of the church in preparation for the 450th anniversary of the parish and the city of St. Augustine.

The renovations included a complete reconstruction of a choir loft over the front entrance, removal of the sanctuary floor and replacing it with Italian marble, painting the sanctuary walls and ceiling, improved lighting, a new sound system and additions to the Cassavant-Frères pipe organ. Parishioners will see the church for the first time this Saturday since the Cathedral closed down for the construction – just in time for Palm Sunday and Easter! Photos by Glenn Hastings.
