Local musicians to perform in free concert Feb. 17 St. Anastasia Catholic Church Concert Series continues

Music by Brahms, Debussy and Joplin, and including favorites like Bob Thiele and George David Weiss’s What a Wonderful World, will highlight a free concert performed by three local musicians on Saturday, Feb. 17. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 5205 A1A South on Anastasia Island.

Violinist, Helen Morin

Violinist Helen Morin will host the event that will also feature Randy Tinnin on the trumpet and pianist Curtis Powell. Morin is the wife of Peter Morin, Director of Music at the church.

“The concert is designed to take the audience on a fun musical adventure with great flare, exquisite musicianship and audience appeal,” Peter Morin promises.

Helen Morin regularly leads special music ensembles at Ancient City Baptist Church, Memorial Presbyterian Church, the St. Augustine Community Chorus concerts and conducts Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestras.  Ms. Morin is a violinist in the Coastal Symphony of Georgia and teaches music at R.B. Hunt Elementary School, where she has founded a string ensemble program.

Curtis Powell is the Director of Music at Ancient City Baptist Church. He is an honorary member of the Board of Directors of EMMA – The St. Augustine Concert Association, and currently produces their Music Masters Lecture Series. Powell is founder of the Summer Musical Theatre Camp for Kids and Teens in St. Augustine.

Randy Tinnin is Director of the UNF School of Music.

The concert, which is underwritten by church parishioners Barbara and Ray Hamel, is part of the church’s 2017-2018 concert series. Final concerts in the series include Scott Marosek (Solo Classical and Jazz Piano) on March 24 and the Jacksonville University Orchestra on April 22.

Reserved seating for families with young children will be available for early arrivals. A free-will collection will be taken at the concerts for those who wish to contribute to the event expenses. Free parking is provided at the church which is located at 5202 A1A South on Anastasia Island. The church seats more than 1400. For information call 471-5364.
