Morning Star School’s Recycling Program Worthy of Praise

February 9, 2018

Morning Star School, a Catholic, K through 12th grade special education school in Jacksonville, recycles plastic, aluminum, paper and cardboard each and every day! The program impacts students and helps integrate environmental sustainability into the school’s curriculum.

“The students on the recycling crew (which change periodically) are running the program and doing all the work”, said Mrs. Greer, the Morning Star teacher that heads up the program for the school. “Students collect the school recyclables weekly, from each classroom, then sort items and place them into appropriate bins,” she said.

Morning Star’s recycling program is sponsored by Sue and Pierre Corso, owners of More Space Place, a local business who cares and supports our school. They pay the collection fees to the recycling company that picks up every other week. “Our recycling program teaches our students responsibility, and taking proper care of our Earth’s resources,” said Jean Barnes, principal of Morning Star School. “It also ties right in with the pope’s mission to increase awareness for our mother Earth,” she added.
