Bishop Estévez wishes to share a decree from Cardinal Wilton Gregory, archbishop of Washington, granting a plenary indulgence to pilgrims who attend the National March for Life, Jan. 20-21 in Washington, D.C. 

This year’s plenary indulgence provides for those pilgrims who will attend events in person and for those pilgrims who will attend events virtually. Pilgrims who participate in person, or virtually due to age, sickness or other grave reasons that prevent them from leaving their homes, but who join via TV, radio or social media in the National Prayer Vigil for Life at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on Thursday, Jan. 20 will obtain a plenary indulgence. The same conditions apply for pilgrims, who will attend in person or virtually the Mass for Life, which will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 21 at The Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle.

The national March for Life is an inspiring, peaceful, vibrant, and joy-filled rally of women, men, young people, and children from all across the country. Every year, tens of thousands of pro-lifers converge on the National Mall and march on Capitol Hill on the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling which legalized abortion in all 50 states.

It’s the largest annual human rights demonstration in the world. This year, students from the University of Florida, University of North Florida, Flagler College and Holy Family Parish young adults will travel to D.C. to fight for the right to life.
