Congratulations to Suzette Gagnon, a teacher at Christ the King Catholic School in Jacksonville, for being recently recognized by the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA). Gagnon received the Corteva Excellence in Agricultural Science Education Award for her hard work revamping the school’s community gardens last year.

“Christ the King Catholic School was the first Catholic School in the State of Florida to be recognized as a STREAM-accredited school thanks to the expertise and leadership of Mrs. Gagnon,” said Deacon Scott Conway, superintendent of Catholic schools in the diocese. “She is a true educator at heart and has transformed the lives of so many of our students through hands-on learning in the area of STEM education.”

The 2021 NSTA Teacher Awards program, which honors K–12 teachers, principals, professors and other science education professionals for their outstanding work and achievement in science education. In lieu of the in-person event that typically takes place annually at the NSTA National Conference on Science Education, award winners are being formally recognized during various virtual award ceremonies scheduled during late May and early June.

“Congratulations to all of the award winners on their success,” said Elizabeth Allan, NSTA president. “Each one of these incredible educators has repeatedly gone above and beyond their role as a teacher to inspire their students and help them move towards a brighter future.”
