Celebrating the Resilience and Faith of the Class of 2024
May 23, 2024 • Diocese of St. Augustine

A Message from Bishop Erik T. Pohlmeier

As we gather to celebrate this remarkable milestone in your lives, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to each one of you. Your journey has been unique and filled with unexpected challenges, yet you have shown extraordinary resilience and determination.

Reflecting on your high school years, you have navigated a rapidly changing world with unprecedented disruptions. The COVID-19 pandemic profoundly impacted your education, forcing a rapid transition to remote learning, presenting significant technological barriers and challenges in staying motivated and engaged in a virtual environment. Despite these obstacles, you adapted, persevered and emerged stronger.

In our Catholic community here in the Diocese of St. Augustine, we are particularly proud of the spirit many of you have shown and the way you have embodied the teachings of Christ throughout these trying times. While some of you have remained committed to the practice of your faith, others may have struggled or taken different paths. Yet, your compassion, kindness and service to others have been shining examples of living the Gospel in our modern world. You have shown that faith can be a guiding light in times of uncertainty, even if your journey has not always been simple.

As you move forward into the next chapter of your lives, carry with you the lessons learned and the bonds formed. Continue to seek truth, uphold justice and serve with humility and love. Let your faith, whether constant or renewed, be the cornerstone of all your endeavors, and remember that you are never alone – God walks with you every step of the way.

I leave you with these words from the Book of Proverbs, a reminder to trust in God’s guidance: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

May the Holy Spirit guide you, bless you and keep you always. Congratulations, Class of 2024. The world awaits the impact you will surely make, and we, your Catholic family, are here to support you with our prayers and love.

Yours in Christ,

Bishop Erik Pohlmeier
