About the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine
As Sisters of St. Joseph, we are called to move always toward a more profound love of God, both individually and as a congregation. Our founder, Jesuit Father Jean-Pierre Medaille, wished us to be known as the Congregation of the Great Love of God.
Today we are a diocesan congregation of women religious who have freely responded to the call of the Holy Spirit to live within the Catholic Church a life in community dedicated to the glory of God and to the loving servic of our neighbor. We make public profession of the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty and obedience in an apostolic congregation. God’s love for us enables us to live Gospel-centered lives.
Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we participate in an ever-deepening way in the mission of Jesus: “that all may be one as you, Father, are in me, and I in you; I pray that they be one in us that the world may believe that you sent me.” (John 17:21) Our mission of union requires that we be Christ’s healing presence to the world. We fulfill this mission through a diversity of ministries called forth by the ever-changing needs of the Church and the world.
Our apostolic works of charity are to be done in a spirit of humility and with sincere cordiality in the manner of St. Joseph, our patron.
Our spirituality is Ignatian-Salesian, that is, oriented towards excellence, yet tempered by gentleness, peace and joy.
