First Letter of John and Dinner with Bishop Estevez

Join us at Marywood Retreat & Conference Center on Thursday, Nov. 30 for Mass and dinner with Bishop Estévez, who will be presenting on the First Letter of St. John. Registration begins at 6:00 p.m. followed by Mass and dinner at 6:30 p.m. The cost for the event is $25. The First Letter of St. John is a narrative masterpiece which contains the development of becoming perfect as the Eternal Father is perfect. This Apostolic writing is the fruit of the life of St. John the Apostle, the beloved disciple and of those in his Community. This letter can be seen as a miniature of the fourth gospel. The essential teaching is that the Son of God truly became one of us. And his life is seen in a Trinitarian paradigm. The disciples are seen as sharing of this life. Faith and love sustain this new life. Bishop Estevez sees this exploration as a gift in preparation for Christmas. Call (904) 287-2525 or Email to register.

Florida Bishops Commemorate the life of Archbishop Joseph Hurley

Join Bishop Estévez and the Florida Bishops as they commemorate the life and legacy of Archbishop Joseph P. Hurley, Oct. 30, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine. There will be a 5 p.m. talk by Archbishop Thomas Wenski of Miami with the Mass following at 6 p.m. Archbishop Hurley’s service of 27 years as Bishop of St. Augustine (1940-1967) was by far the longest of any Florida Bishop. The Catholic Church in Florida flourishes today due to his vision and intuition. He was a dedicated churchman who sought God’s glory.

DOSA Middle School Youth Rally

Join hundreds of Middle School students from across the diocese for a day of music, faith, fellowship, and fun! From skits, to games, to talks, and mass this will be one day to energize and revitalize your faith! The purpose of our middle school rally is twofold. First, our goal is to evangelize. Our goal is to offer a day that invites and excites the young people into a deeper discipleship of Jesus Christ. Everything we do points to him from our music to our workshops and culminating with the liturgy. Second, we are offering the young people an opportunity to see a larger church community with teenagers from across the diocese. There is great value in seeing and participating in ‘big church’ so that the young church can grow in fellowship together.

Out Lady of Good Counsel Food Pantry Needs Van

In order to expand and reach more people and families in need, Our Lady of Good Counsel Food Pantry, located on SR 16 in St. Augustine, needs a new or gently used large van to pick up and deliver meat and produce from the Feeding Northeast Florida Food Bank in Jacksonville. Access to this food will enable us to nearly double our program and reach more of our less fortunate brothers, sisters and children, shut-ins, the elderly and those without transportation, supplying them with good nutritious meals. This van will truly make a difference in our Community Outreach Food Pantry Program. Your donation is tax-deductible within the confines of the law. If you are interested in generously donating a van, please call the parish at 904-824-8688 and speak to our pastor, Father Guy Noonan.

Keeping Students Connected to the Catholic Church

It is hard to imagine that 80% of our college students – the same students you worked so hard to nurture in their spiritual development – stop practicing the faith at some point during college. But he problem is very real. Together with Bishop Estévez, the Diocese of St. Augustine is continuing work to implement a High School Outreach Program in our parishes and Catholic high schools with the help of Newman Connection. This year we are asking the information be collected on student contact cards provided by Newman Connection at a graduation event. Once this is complete, you can then enter the information on the Newman Connection website or send the completed cards to Cassie Campton, Director of Outreach. If you have any questions, contact Cassie Campton at
