Traveling ‘Pandemic Crucifix’ visiting Ascension St. Vincent’s
August 6, 2021 • Diocese of St. Augustine

Ascension’s traveling ‘pandemic crucifix’ is visiting Ascension St. Vincent’s hospitals from Tuesday, August 10 to Friday, August 13.

Last December, the archbishop of the Archdiocese of St. Louis visited Ascension’s offices in St. Louis and offered a special blessing for those who serve its Mission across the United States.

The archbishop presented Ascension with a crucifix similar to one that inspired the Romans to turn to God for hope and healing during an epidemic in 1522. Pope Francis brought that crucifix back to Rome in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ‘pandemic crucifix’ given to Ascension is traveling across its health systems in 19 states and the District of Columbia. After the visit to the three Ascension St. Vincent’s hospitals this week, the crucifix will then travel west across Florida to visit Ascension Sacred Heart hospitals and then to Ascension Providence in Mobile, Ala.
