August 16, 2021 •

After months of planning and construction, Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery is now open to serve the needs of the Jacksonville community. Bishop Felipe Estévez will bless and dedicate the new cemetery on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m.

Located on the Prince of Peace Catholic Church property at 6320 Bennett Road, Jacksonville,  the cemetery rests on about four acres. It includes a four-walled columbarium with 192 niches, an octagonal columbarium with 72 niches and room for in-ground cremation burials.

Christian families of all faiths are encouraged to consider Gate of Heaven Cemetery as a resting place for their loved ones. This cemetery is the newest of four diocesan cemeteries, including San Lorenzo Cemetery (1635 U.S. 1 South, St. Augustine), St. Madeleine Memorial Garden & Cemetery (17155 NW U.S. Highway 441, High Springs) and St. Mary Cemetery (21 Cemetery Road, Bunnell).
